Empowering People For Change
Uganda Programs:
The biggest need in poor Ugandan villages today is for education. The government only pays 1% of the cost of educating children. Average tuition is $140-150 per year. Many families total yearly income is $120 per year which means many children cannot attend school.

There is also a desperate need for health and literacy education for adults in remote villages. Many people die from preventable disease each year. Uganda, which is the size of Oregon, has 60 different language/tribal groups. English is the official language spoken throughout the country, but you must be literate to speak English. The lives of the illiterate are restricted to their tribal area. The following Life Seeds programs will help eradicate illiteracy and empower the people to transform their communities:

Women's Literacy Classes
Life Seeds is partnering with Development Companions International to bring women's literacy classes to 8 villages around the Mbale, Uganda area. This proven program teaches women to read and write their native language the first year and in English the second year. Graduates of this program have many advantages. They can help their children with school, be involved in local politics, understand and implement health education curriculum and be trained in small business management. The cost is $100 a month for a two year commitment. Donations of any amount, (monthly or one-time) toward this project are greatly appreciated.

LIVESTOCK PROGRAMS ARE LONG TERM INCOME PRODUCERS:
We have two programs currently that have the potential to produce continuing income that will pay for orphans to go to school on an ongoing basis.

Life Seeds' "perpetual" chickens
This program will provide enough money to send 20 orphans to school on an ongoing basis. The $30 price includes costs associated with setting up an egg production facility; housing, fencing, medicines, vet salary, 24 hour chicken guard, training in chicken care and business skills for kids and adults. The plan provides 300 laying chickens that will provide eggs for a village, 50 eggs a day to supplement orphan diets and enough income to pay tuition for 20 orphans on an ongoing basis. Program should be able to sustain itself indefinitely. Clide veterinarians (Val Shean) partners with us on this project.

Cost: $30 each

Life Seeds' goats
This price includes buying a goat, training costs, medicines and quarterly veterinarian checks for one year. Each goat is given to benefit an orphan. As goats reproduce, they can be sold to pay for their education. Goat price has increased due to dropping value of dollar and major inflation in Uganda. Our successful goat program is already helping 142 orphans!

Cost: $75 each

SPONSOR AN ORPHAN'S EDUCATION:
Tuition costs are $140 per year, or about $16 a month. This will allow kids to go to school NOW without waiting for the livestock programs to be fully funded and producing income. We have almost 400 orphans who need help to go to school.

Can you help give a future to a needy orphan?
Cost: $16 a month

ANOTHER POSSIBILITY FOR EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES:

Water projects:
We have opportunity to provide either bore hole wells for communities or gutters and rain barrels on individual houses that would provide clean sources of drinkable water and in itself reduce disease. If you are interested in funding a well or rain drain project, please contact us. These projects are in the $3-5,000 range and would help up to 100 families at a time.
